A Security Zone is Necessary in All Areas of Contact with Azerbaijan: Ombudsman

The Office of the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has prepared an extraordinary report regarding the need for a security zone in all areas of contact with Azerbaijan. "Visits have been made to all border communities of Armenia, and continuous monitoring has been conducted in Syunik and Gegharkunik for a year. The report highlights the dangers with factual evidence," said Armenian Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan during a meeting with reporters.

He noted that they have provided evidence of Azerbaijani criminal acts. "We have demonstrated the connection between the political actions of the Azerbaijani authorities and ongoing violations. We have substantiated the necessity of a security zone. Azerbaijani flags, soldiers, various equipment, and cameras must be removed from the immediate vicinity of our villages and the roads connecting our communities. Without this, there can be no restoration of rights," Tatoyan stated.

He added that the delimitation and demarcation of borders cannot be considered legitimate if it does not ensure human rights, complies with the principles of democracy and the rule of law, and does not guarantee a normal life for people.
