World Championship Highlights: Hovhannes Bachkov to Fight Azerbaijani Opponent

On the 6th competition day of the World Boxing Championship taking place in Belgrade, Serbia, Armenia will be represented by three athletes.

The first match will be contested by 80 kg weight category boxer Hambardzum Hakobyan, who will face Russia's Savelii Sadomai in the 1/16 finals in Ring A. The competition will start at 15:00 local time in Yerevan.

In the evening session, 48 kg weight category boxer Seyran Yeghikyan will step into the ring. His opponent in the 1/8 finals will be Kyrgyz representative Uulu Mirlan Turkbai. Yeghikyan advanced to this stage after a strong victory against Italian Nicola Cordela (3:0) in the 1/16 finals.

The main highlight of the day is the match of Hovhannes Bachkov, the bronze medalist of the Tokyo Olympics, double bronze medalist of the World Championships, double European champion, and captain of the Armenian national team, against Malik Hasanov from Azerbaijan in the 1/16 finals. This will be Bachkov’s first bout in this World Championship.

Hasanov started his competition from the 1/32 finals, where he won against Guatemala's Juan Donis Reyes with a score of 5:0. The Bachkov - Hasanov showdown will take place in the evening session in Ring B, with matches beginning at 20:00 local time in Yerevan.
