We Are Waiting for a Positive Signal from Baku: Secretary of the Security Council

Armenia is ready to engage in the delimitation and demarcation process with Azerbaijan, said Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan during a press conference.

"One of the key approaches is the mutual withdrawal of Armenian and Azerbaijani forces and the deployment of border guard troops in relevant areas, as well as the commencement of delimitation and demarcation," he stated.

At the same time, Grigoryan noted that there is no obstructive circumstance for Armenia at this moment.

"We have declared that we are ready to start the demarcation and delimitation process, and in this regard, we are waiting for a positive signal from Azerbaijan," Grigoryan said.

He pointed out that Azerbaijan had announced this at the UN, but the process has not moved forward.

"It seems that in September at the UN, they made such a statement, but we are unable to advance in this regard. As for any preconditions or anything else, I would find it difficult to say why Azerbaijan is not starting the demarcation and delimitation process," Grigoryan noted.

He also mentioned that the first demarcation during the Soviet Union era began in the 1920s, specifically in 1926-27, and was completed in 1929, with the maps formed later based on those years' maps.

"The maps that should serve as the basis for negotiations have been discussed in the working group," Grigoryan added.
