Odesa Court Sentences Two Thieves to Read Mark Twain

In Odesa, a court has sentenced two teenagers to reading as punishment for stealing a car stereo. According to reports by Эхо Москвы, both youths faced three years of imprisonment, but the court instead imposed a conditional one-year sentence on each if they read several literary works that promote humanity and respect for private property.

The works in question include Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," Jack London's "White Fang," and Taras Shevchenko's poem "The Days Go By, the Nights Go By."
