Egypt Lifts State of Emergency Declared After 2017 Attacks

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has lifted the state of emergency that has been in effect since 2017. This was reported by TASS, referencing a statement made by the president on Facebook.

“Egypt has become an oasis of security and stability in the region thanks to its great people and loyal citizens. Therefore, for the first time in years, I have decided to cancel the extension of the state of emergency,” the president said.

The state of emergency measures were instituted in April 2017 following terrorist attacks on churches in Tanta and Alexandria.
