Greece Declares Istanbul Armenian Writer Sevan Nişanyan as 'Unwanted Person'

Armenian writer Sevan Nişanyan has announced that Greece has declared him an 'unwanted person'. He informed that he had been on a tourist trip to Albania and attempted to return to Greece, but was denied entry into the country. This was reported by Ermenihaber.am.

Nişanyan stated that Greek officials did not disclose the reason for their decision, citing it as a state secret. 'I assume that my weekly publications regarding the Republic of Turkey or certain individuals in that country disturb them, and that disturbance has been communicated to the Greek state,' he mentioned.

The writer also discussed another possible reason for being declared 'unwanted' in Greece. According to him, it could be linked to his research from the previous year, where he presented the historical names of locations in Greece. According to that research, half of the place names in Northern Greece are in Turkish, half are in Bulgarian, and there are almost no Greek toponyms in that region.
