How the Funds Raised by the 'Hayastan' Foundation Were Spent
During and after the 44-day war in Artsakh, a parliamentary inquiry committee has been established to investigate the use of funds raised by the 'Hayastan' Foundation. This information was reported by the press service of the National Assembly.
The inquiry committee will examine not only the funds raised but also the use of resources transferred to the state budget of Armenia.
Starting from September 27, 2020, the first day of the war unleashed by Azerbaijan, the 'Hayastan' All-Armenian Foundation initiated a nationwide fundraising campaign titled 'We Are, Our Borders'. As a result of this campaign, 52.7 billion drams were transferred to the state budget in November of the previous year.
On November 18, 2020, during a Q&A session in the National Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stated that some of the funds from the 'Hayastan' All-Armenian Foundation had not been spent, and some of them were donated to the Armenian government during the war. This statement sparked controversy and led to accusations against the 'Hayastan' Foundation.
In order to establish the inquiry committee, MPs from the 'I Have Honor' and 'Hayastan' factions approached the President of the National Assembly.
The document signed by the MPs notes, 'The resources of the 'Hayastan' All-Armenian Foundation have been raised with the efforts of almost the entire Armenian population, and to date, neither the foundation nor any state body has presented a report on the expenditure of these funds, which would allow clarifying the specific directions of their spending.'
It is noteworthy that the President of the inquiry committee is MP Artsvik Minasyan from the 'Hayastan' faction. The draft decision on determining the number of committee members will be discussed in the next session of the National Assembly on October 26.
