Aliyev and Pashinyan Demonstrated Political Wisdom by Stopping the Bloodshed: Putin

Baku and Yerevan managed to halt the bloodshed in Nagorno-Karabakh by rejecting immediate gains, and it is now essential to create conditions for long-term resolution in the region. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin during a meeting of the Valdai Discussion Club.

He pointed out that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, despite all difficulties, demonstrated political wisdom when they decided to stop the violence in Karabakh.

"In the end, President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan succeeded in stopping the bloodshed. However, the issue is not only in this; there is nothing more important than saving human lives. Nevertheless, there are still significant aspects that need to be addressed, such as the necessity to create conditions for long-term resolution in the region. These conditions can only be created if both sides accept the agreements reached in the long term and both sides understand the benefits of peaceful coexistence—this is what I want to emphasize. And this is in the interest of all," Putin noted.

He elaborated that this is only possible if Azerbaijan and Armenia recognize the advantages of peaceful coexistence. In this case, the Russian leader emphasized, it would be possible to unblock transport routes and economic ties in the region, which would create conditions for the security of both countries.
