56-Year-Old Gyumri Resident Attempts to Strangle Mother and Attacks Sister with Scissors

On October 19, 2021, at 16:08, a resident of Gyumri reported to the Mush division of the Armenian Police that a person under the influence of alcohol was killing or trying to kill her mother. This was announced by the Armenian Investigative Committee.

On the same day, at 16:54, according to a report received by the Gyumri Mush police division, medical assistance was provided to a 75-year-old resident of a building in the Sheram district of Gyumri, who stated that she had been beaten.

As a result of measures taken based on the reports, it was revealed that on October 17 and 18, 2021, the 56-year-old resident of the mentioned apartment, while under the influence of alcohol, repeatedly insulted his mother, making threats to kill her. On October 19, around 14:00, after arguing with his mother in the kitchen and threatening her with murder, he attempted to strangle her. Then, pulling her and throwing her to the floor, he took a stick from her hands and struck various parts of her body.

Seeing that his sister was calling the police, the 56-year-old man attacked his sister, striking her around the face with scissors, and then fled the scene while making threats to kill.

During a personal search of the 56-year-old man, the scissors, which were the weapon of the crime, were discovered.

On October 20, 2021, a criminal case was initiated in the Mush division of the Gyumri city police based on Article 34-104, Part 1, Article 118, Article 137, Part 1, and Article 137.1, Parts 1 and 3 of the RA Criminal Code. On the same day, the 56-year-old resident of Gyumri was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

On October 21, 2021, the criminal case was received by the Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia and accepted for proceedings. An investigation is underway, and various investigative and procedural actions are being carried out to ensure a comprehensive and objective examination of the case.
