Video: Criminal Case Initiated in Gazel Accident, Details from the Investigative Committee

On October 20, 2021, around 07:00, a 59-year-old resident of Gyumri was driving a passenger 'GAZEL' vehicle towards Yerevan, when at kilometer 51 of the Yerevan-Gyumri highway, the car veered off the traffic lane to the right and overturned. As a result, both the driver and four passengers in the vehicle lost their lives, while 17 others sustained various injuries and were transported to medical centers.

A preliminary inspection at the scene revealed that safety regulations were not ensured during the road construction works being carried out at the turning point of kilometer 51 on the Yerevan-Gyumri highway.

In connection with the incident, a criminal case has been initiated by the Investigative Committee of Armenia’s Aragatsotn regional investigative department, according to Article 242, Part 3, and Article 230, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Investigative and procedural actions are being conducted to clarify all the circumstances of the incident. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
