The Return of the Captives Was a Surprise for Their Relatives: 'Haykakan Jamanak'

'Haykakan Jamanak' newspaper reports that a small group of our captives returned home yesterday evening, comprising 5 Armenian youths. Among them is Mel S. Ambardaryan from Gyumri. His brother, Tigran, told us that his return was a surprise for the family: 'We didn’t know anything. Like everyone else, we were waiting.'

In June of this year, the Baku Serious Crimes Court sentenced 13 Armenian servicemen, including Mel S. Ambardaryan, to 6 years in prison on charges of 'terrorism, illegally crossing the state border of Azerbaijan, and illegal possession of weapons and ammunition.' They had been captured in December of last year, weeks after the end of the war, in the villages of Khndzorz and Hin Tagher in Hadrut.
