Going to Pick Apples: New Details on the Tragic Accident

According to reports, on the 51st kilometer of the Yerevan-Gyumri road, a "Gazelle" vehicle veered off the roadway, collided with rocks, and overturned. Preliminary data indicates that 5 passengers died at the scene, while 14 were taken to hospitals.

Measures are being taken to identify the driver, the deceased, and those hospitalized. An investigation is underway.

We tried to clarify whether the vehicle was intended for city traffic or not. From the transport company "Trans-Akntert" servicing the Gyumri-Yerevan route, we learned that the accident on the highway has no relation to their transport organization. The company notes that for the past 3 years, they have been serving their route with Ford Transit vehicles.

„Hraparak“ has found that the vehicle involved in the accident was private, rented mainly by residents of Gyumri and neighboring communities, who were heading to Aragatsotn for private work—apple picking. This was not the first time they had rented a vehicle for harvest collection.
