Enemy Fired All Day Yesterday: Resident of Yeraskh

Fire towards the Armenian positions located in the Yeraskh area of Ararat Province along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border has intensified recently. In addition to the military positions, the enemy has also been shelling the village of Yeraskh, resulting in injuries to a contract soldier from gunfire on October 9. A few days later, several thousand square meters of hay belonging to villagers were burned due to enemy gunfire.

A man from the village of Yeraskh stated in an interview with 168.am that the adversary once again carried out provocative actions toward the village after noon yesterday: “They fired all day yesterday, and the gunfire intensified after 2-3 PM, continuing until nightfall. They also started firing again around midnight, but currently there are no gunshots.”

Recently fired shots had burned hay belonging to the villagers. Our interlocutor mentioned that no similar incidents had been reported this time: “At least when something like this happens, it spreads actively in the village, and we know about it. In the recent incidents, hay belonging to two brothers, representatives of the Yazidi community from our village, was burned. The first time, it was one brother's hay, and the second time, it was the other’s.”

We also asked our interlocutor about the mood among the people and whether representatives of the authorities are visiting the village to meet with the villagers or to clarify details about the incidents: “I have not seen or heard of anything like that... If someone from the authorities had come to the village, we would have known... As for the people, what can we do? When the gunfire starts, we all go into our houses, and when it stops, everyone goes back to their work. No matter how much we are not afraid, we know this is our land, yet psychologically it affects us, especially the children...”

168.am also reached out to the mayor of Yeraskh, Radik Oghikyan, to inquire about the current situation in the village, but the community leader refused to answer our questions.
