Courts Reject Lawsuits of Serzh Sargsyan's Brother's Children, Prosecutor's Office Reports

Separate media outlets have reported that lawsuits have been filed against the RA Prosecutor General's Office by the Department for the Seizure of Illicit Property, seeking to invalidate a total of four decisions made by the department. This information has been provided by the RA Prosecutor's Office.

It is important to note that the representatives of Narek and Ani Lyova Sargsyan, having reviewed the preliminary findings regarding their assets, submitted similarly worded complaints to the RA Administrative and Yerevan City First Instance Courts. Specifically, on September 10 and 14, 2021, the representative filed two complaints contesting the legality of the Prosecutor's decisions regarding the initiation of inquiries into illicit property seizure cases.

The Administrative Court of Armenia rejected the complaint related to Narek Sargsyan on September 22, 2021, on the grounds that a decision to initiate an inquiry cannot be subject to judicial review. The discussion of Ani Sargsyan's complaint was redirected by the Administrative Court to the Yerevan City First Instance Court, citing that Ani Sargsyan's claim was not in opposition to the Administrative Court.

On October 6 and 7, 2021, the Yerevan City General Jurisdiction Court also rejected the lawsuits filed by their representative, arguing that the requests presented were not subject to examination through judicial means.

Additionally, on September 27 and October 4, 2021, the plaintiffs' representative appealed to the RA Administrative and Yerevan City First Instance Courts against the Prosecutor General's decisions on establishing a new time period for inquiries, citing similar reasons. The Administrative Court rejected one of the lawsuits on October 4, 2021, while directing the other to the Yerevan City First Instance Court, stating that the claims made were not in opposition to the Administrative Court. As of now, there is no court ruling on this redirected lawsuit.

It is noteworthy that Narek and Ani Sargsyan are the children of Levon Sargsyan, the brother of Armenia’s third president Serzh Sargsyan.
