Will Hayk Marutyan Attend the National Assembly on November 5? The Question is Being Discussed Within the Government
The Mayor of Yerevan, Hayk Marutyan, is expected to appear in parliament on November 5. The "Zhoghovurd" newspaper has learned that during a joint session of the Standing Committees on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture, Environmental Protection, as well as Financial and Budgetary Affairs, Mayor Marutyan is to present the expenditures and revenues of the Yerevan Municipality from the 2022 state budget of Armenia.
Within the ruling party, there has been discussion regarding whether Marutyan will agree to come to the National Assembly, as he has entirely severed his ties with the government and may choose to ignore the legislative body and not attend parliament.
The ruling faction believes that should Mayor Marutyan decide to come to parliament, he should be pressed on various issues, given that he was elected mayor through the government and has abruptly cut ties with everyone, resulting in a dismissive attitude that has persisted for quite some time.
Marutyan did not lend a hand to his team during the snap parliamentary elections on June 20, and moreover, Prime Minister Pashinyan's demand that he resign from his post as mayor yielded no results. Even the Yerevan Council began to conspire against Marutyan, but to no avail. Marutyan continues to hold office while disregarding the government and its policies.
Now the question arises: after all this, will Marutyan wish to appear before the parliament to face their "judgment"?
