Metro Will Be Constructed in Ajapnyak with a Dual-Function Bridge
The leading Russian company "Metrogiprotrans" has won the tender announced by the Yerevan municipality for the design of a metro station in the Ajapnyak administrative district. Valery Abramson, chairman of the board of directors of "Metrogiprotrans" and candidate of economic sciences, as well as an honorary builder of Russia, shared this information in an interview with Sputnik Armenia.
At the same time, the company has proposed to the Armenian government a metro development project worth 500 million dollars. The Russian agency for Export Credit Insurance is ready to support the project under favorable conditions.
"The design work will take 1.5 years, but if the Cabinet approves the proposal, we will work more actively and diversely, dividing the project into several phases and starting various construction works. In that case, construction could begin within the year," Abramson noted.
The businessman also mentioned that the Armenian side suggested modifying the tender project and constructing a dual-function bridge for vehicles in addition to the metro bridge over the Hrazdan Gorge.
"I asked our architects to design a beautiful two-level bridge so that it could become a new symbol of Yerevan," he said.
Additionally, the company plans to involve Armenian specialists in the construction process and create new jobs, among other initiatives.
Abramson recalled that "Metrogiprotrans" was established in 1933 and that their experienced specialists have previously participated in the design of the Yerevan metro, and now they are eagerly waiting to start work on the project.
"We are ready to build a beautiful and well-organized metro, but the decision must be made by the city and authorities," the architect stated.
The chairman of the board of directors of "Metrogiprotrans" also mentioned the role of the Armenian diaspora and Armenia's ambassador to Russia, Vardan Toganyan, who helped facilitate communication between Moscow and Yerevan. Thanks to his efforts, it was possible to coordinate the projects with the Armenian authorities and establish contacts with interested investors.
