Turkey Granted Right to Export Goods to EU via Georgia

Turkey has been granted the right to export products made from Turkish raw materials to the EU through Georgia from Friday.

“In particular, this will apply to textiles, furniture, construction materials, plastics, steel, paper, cardboard, and other products. Additionally, such an agreement will encourage investments from Turkey, promote the formation of joint ventures, and create new jobs,” said Economy Minister Natia Turnava, as quoted by the press service.

At the same time, the new agreement will not apply to agricultural products, the Ministry of Economy has clarified.

Georgia, Turkey, and the EU have been working on the agreement since 2017. In 2014, Georgia signed an Association Agreement with the EU, which includes a deep and comprehensive trade agreement as an inseparable part. Turkey is Georgia’s main trading partner. Between January and August 2021, trade between the two countries exceeded $1.2 billion, a 32.5% increase compared to the same period in 2020.
