The Number of COVID-19 Deaths is Unclear: Is There No Statistics for Home Deaths?

As of October 15, according to the Ministry of Health, there have been 278,431 confirmed cases of coronavirus, of which 252,211 have recovered and 5,713 have resulted in death. This means there have been more than 5,700 deaths from COVID-19.

However, it turns out that these figures only account for deaths registered in hospitals. The Ministry of Health does not provide numbers for deaths that occurred at home. Representatives of the ministry stated that they do not maintain statistics on home deaths and only present the data they receive from healthcare facilities treating COVID-19 patients.

According to the Ministry of Health, statistics for home deaths are managed by the National Statistical Service, based on data from death certificates, which indicate the cause of death as “coronavirus disease.”
