Meat Prices Rise, Production Volumes Decline
In the first eight months of this year, meat production volumes in Armenia have decreased. According to the 'Haykakan Jramanak' newspaper, referencing the National Statistical Committee of Armenia, there has been a 0.3% decline in meat production volumes compared to the same period last year. Notably, the production volumes of beef and sheep meat have decreased, while pork production has increased by 2.4% during the January-August period of this year, although sheep meat has seen a 3% decline. Additionally, poultry production volumes have decreased by 0.5%.
During these eight months, Armenia produced 9,019,800 tons of poultry meat. According to poultry farmers, the inability to organize the import of chicks from Georgia at the end of 2020 has affected poultry production volumes. Moreover, in recent months, the price of chicken meat has significantly increased. Both imported and domestically-produced chicken meat prices have risen. Experts believe that local chicken meat has become more expensive due to simultaneous increases in the prices of imported feed, as well as natural gas and electricity tariffs.
