Drugs Discovered: The State Revenue Committee Provides Details

The Republic of Armenia's State Revenue Committee's Department for Fighting Smuggling continues its battle against the international illegal circulation of drugs and psychotropic substances. This was reported by the Committee’s Information and Public Relations Department.

During customs control at the Agarak border crossing point in September 2021, employees of the Committee's anti-smuggling department, in collaboration with the South Customs Administration and the Border Guard Department of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation in Armenia, conducted a customs inspection of the luggage of two citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran arriving in Armenia via a 'Mercedes-Benz' vehicle.

In one of the suitcases, in addition to personal belongings, 338.5 grams of 'methamphetamine' and 10.6 grams of 'marijuana' were discovered, concealed in the pockets of a man's sleeveless jacket. Additionally, 0.7 grams of 'methamphetamine' were found in a small compartment within the vehicle's cabin.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Committee's Investigative Department (under Article 267.1, part 4, point 1 and Article 266, part 3, point 2 of the RA Criminal Code), within the framework of which one citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran has been detained.

An investigation is underway at the Committee's Investigative Department.

Notice: A person suspected or accused of a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedure established by the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Armenia and by a legally binding court verdict.
