Criminal Case Initiated Following Attempted Murder of 6 Military Personnel
On October 14, 2021, at around 21:05, a group of enemy soldiers opened fire on the combat position of the N military unit of the Defense Army, with the intent to unlawfully deprive the lives of two or more persons and intentionally destroy property to a significant extent, motivated by national hatred. According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Armenia, as a result, the shelter at this combat position was damaged, and six out of nine soldiers on duty at the same position suffered varying degrees of fragmentary and gunshot wounds. The crime of murder was not completed due to circumstances beyond the control of the enemy's soldiers.
A criminal case has been initiated at the Military Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia based on the characteristics of crimes stipulated in parts 1, 7, and 13 of Article 34-104 and part 1 and 4 of Article 185 of the RA Criminal Code on October 15. A proper prosecutorial oversight is being conducted during the preliminary investigation. Forensic examinations have been appointed, and directives have been issued for operational and investigative measures to ascertain the full circumstances of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces' criminal actions.
In accordance with the agreement reached between the Prosecutors General of the Republic of Armenia, the Russian Federation, and the Republic of Azerbaijan on the operational exchange of information regarding criminal incidents occurring in the Armenia-Azerbaijan contact zone, data related to the murder of Defense Army personnel and the obvious purpose of terrorizing the local population and disrupting normal life have also been transmitted to representatives of the Russian Prosecutor's Office stationed in Artsakh. An operational connection has been established with them. Meanwhile, the Prosecutor's Office of Armenia expresses its willingness to consider any additional information provided by Azerbaijan regarding the incident as a subject for impartial investigation.
