Iran's Foreign Minister Addresses Issue of Drivers Arrested by Azerbaijan: What to Expect from Azerbaijan?
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian has stated that enemies should not be given the opportunity to disrupt the friendly ties between Tehran and Baku, according to Mehr.
During a phone conversation with his Azerbaijani counterpart Jeyhun Bayramov on Tuesday, Amir-Abdollahian mentioned that Tehran and Baku have enemies and both sides should not allow these adversaries to harm their relationship.
Emphasizing the necessity for mutual respect and the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of both nations, the Iranian foreign minister added that longstanding relations connect Tehran and Baku.
According to the diplomat, the two countries must prevent misunderstandings in their bilateral relations and continue to develop their ties in a correct and rapidly progressing direction.
He then pointed out the issue of Iranian cargo trucks in transit, stating that the Islamic Republic of Iran expects Azerbaijan to take effective measures in addressing the transit challenges faced by Iranian trucks.
Bayramov, for his part, underscored the importance of dialogue and resolving issues in a calm and sincere environment. He proposed that the customs services of the two countries hold direct negotiations to tackle the issues related to the transit of Iranian goods.
The Azerbaijani foreign minister also highlighted the necessity of working towards the release of two Iranian drivers detained in Azerbaijan.
