Video: 9 Dead, 11 Missing After Storm in the Philippines

At least nine people have died and another 11 are reported missing following the tropical storm Kompasu, which brought heavy rains to the Philippines. This was reported by Agence France-Presse, citing local authorities.

According to the agency, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council confirmed that four people in Benguet province were victims of landslides, while another was drowned in Cagayan province. Seven residents of Luzon island are considered missing.

“Eleven municipalities are flooded, but everything has calmed down this morning,” said spokesperson Rochelio Sending, who is responsible for public relations in Cagayan province, to AFP. He added that major roads and bridges remain submerged, but waters began to recede on October 12.

A similar situation is also reported in Palawan province, where the disaster has claimed two lives, and four more are missing. Seven villages remain underwater, according to local emergency services.

The Kompasu tropical storm formed on October 11 in the Pacific Ocean. It has become the 18th storm of the season in Asia, reported TASS.
