Some MPs Have Yet to Sign the Confidentiality Document, Says Simonian

The President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonian, stated today that a parliamentary commission to investigate the circumstances of the 44-day war in Artsakh will definitely be established; however, it is necessary to complete the procedures preceding the formation of that body.

He noted that while it may sound somewhat amusing, there are MPs from both the ruling party and the opposition who have not yet signed the relevant confidentiality document.

"The National Assembly itself is still not fully formed; there are numerous processes that remain unfinished (for example, the election of the deputy head of the defense committee has not yet occurred)," Simonian said. "That commission will exist and operate." He added that it is still unclear whether this commission will be based on the Permanent Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly.

The President of the National Assembly disagreed with assessments suggesting that the current authorities are trying to evade political responsibility for the outcomes of the war. Simonian stated that since the day after the war ended, the political leadership has taken on all possible blows. Even in instances where part of the responsibility could justifiably be attributed to others, the ruling team has, according to Simonian, taken it upon themselves.

It is worth recalling that the opposition has repeatedly accused the ruling party of attempting to avoid responsibility for the defeat in the 44-day war.
