Armenia and Iran to Sign Agreement Soon
Armenia and Iran are set to sign an agreement regarding the 'Persian Gulf – Black Sea' initiative in the near future. This was announced today in Yerevan during a joint press conference with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar by Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ara Rat Mirzoyan.
“We discussed this issue with the Iranian side yesterday, and I can say that events regarding this agreement are developing quite rapidly, and I hope that we will have a signed agreement on this project in the near future,” stated Mirzoyan.
The heads of the foreign diplomatic services of Armenia and India also announced that they discussed other regional transport corridors during their meetings in Yerevan. “We naturally touched upon the issues of infrastructure in the large region. This relates to the 'North-South' transport corridor, we discussed the recent positive developments around the 'Chabahar' port, the issue of establishing direct road communication between Armenia and India, as well as the further transit of transport from Armenia to the north, through Georgia to Russia, and possibly also to the Black Sea,” Mirzoyan added.
Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also emphasized that Armenia's involvement in regional transport routes will open up even more opportunities for other participants in these initiatives.
