Pentagon Employee Accused of Transmitting Secret Information on Nuclear Submarines
The United States authorities have charged a Department of Defense employee with transferring confidential information regarding nuclear submarines. This was reported on Sunday, October 10, on the website of the U.S. Department of Justice.
Jonathan Toebin attempted to contact foreign authorities by sending a letter proposing to sell information about the nuclear reactor systems of the U.S. Navy’s submarines from April 2020. The department did not specify which country's authorities Toebin reached out to.
A specialist from the FBI approached the department employee, posing as a foreign agent. As a result, Jonathan Toebin and his wife, Diana, reportedly transmitted several classified pieces of information to the “agent.” They allegedly collected around $100,000 from the “sale,” with the man receiving the funds from a cryptocurrency account.
The couple has been arrested in West Virginia and are facing life imprisonment.
