COVID-19 Infections Rise in Georgia as Vaccination Rates Decline

Since the beginning of October, the daily vaccination rate has decreased, failing to reach 10,000 doses, while the National Center for Disease Control and the Ministry of Health deem it necessary to achieve up to 30,000 vaccinations daily. This was reported by Aliq Media.

The vaccination process in Georgia commenced on March 15. To date, a total of 1,874,845 vaccinations have been administered. At least one dose has been given to 1,000,785 individuals, accounting for 35.2% of the adult population. Meanwhile, 874,060 people, or 30.6% of the adult population, are fully vaccinated.

Initially, the National Center for Disease Control and the Ministry of Health deemed it vital to vaccinate at least 60% of the adult population to achieve vaccination goals. However, according to the center's director, Amiran Gamkrelidze, due to the widespread transmission of the more severe and contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus, 80% of the population should be vaccinated instead.

Gamkrelidze stated that it is a fact that the number of COVID-19 infections has sharply increased over the past 5-6 days.

Vaccination in Georgia is conducted on a voluntary basis and free of charge.
