Second Round of Elections to Be Held in Georgia

The second round of local self-government elections in Georgia will take place on October 30. This was announced by the chairman of the Georgian Dream party, Irakli Kobakhidze, during a briefing held on October 3, as reported by Armenpress citing Sputnik Georgia.

The second rounds of mayoral elections will be held in 20 cities across the country, including Tbilisi, where no candidate was able to gather more than 50 percent of the votes.

According to Georgia's Electoral Code, second rounds are conducted on the fourth Saturday following local self-government elections and are scheduled by the Central Election Commission in conjunction with the summarization of the first round results.

There is a 50 percent electoral threshold for mayoral elections, while the threshold for city council (Sakrebulo) members is set at 40 percent. The second round will see two candidates who gathered the most votes in the first round compete against each other. The candidate with the most votes in the second round will be declared the winner.

According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, candidates from Georgian Dream are expected to win in 44 out of 64 municipal formations.
