Not Singular, But Plural: "Corridors". This is Very Close to Our Logic, Says the Secretary of the Security Council About Erdogan's Statements

In one of Erdogan's statements, it is mentioned that the corridor is a political issue and a subject for discussion. The logic of the corridor needs to be understood. First, we have announced that there cannot be a sovereign corridor; a sovereign corridor cannot exist in the territory of Armenia. It is possible that corridors or roads that exist in Armenia may be opened for the use of Azerbaijanis or Turkey to connect with Azerbaijan. Such options are possible, but those roads will be under the control of Armenia’s sovereign territory,” Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan said during a broadcast on Public Television, referring to the Turkish-Azerbaijani preconditions for controlling the corridor through Armenia.

According to him, dialogue is necessary to solve the issue, and since “there are positive signals at a high level,” Armenia sees the opportunity to address problems and reach mutual understanding.

“The President of Turkey used the term 'corridors'. Not singular, but plural—'corridors'. And when it is said 'corridors', we understand several roads. This is very close to our logic. And if there is an opportunity to discuss, if there is an opportunity for dialogue, then I think we will find solutions. That is, we understand 'corridors' in this way: using several roads in Armenia,” Grigoryan added.

At the same time, he noted that the issue of the corridor is not being discussed at the level of deputy prime ministers; instead, the discussion is about unblocking all road infrastructures. “We are more inclined to use the existing infrastructures at this time, that is, the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Baku-Russia railway, as well as the Yerevan-Nakhchivan-Julfa route, where there is almost no need for investment in the infrastructures; only a small stretch of about 1 kilometer needs to be constructed at the Armenia-Nakhchivan border, which will take a very short time. Azerbaijan can also use Armenia’s roads. That is, the western regions of Azerbaijan, be it through Tavush or Syunik, should use the infrastructures to connect with Nakhchivan. We are inclined towards this option and are discussing it to try to move forward,” Grigoryan stated.
