Local Elections Kick Off in Georgia

Local elections have commenced in Georgia at 08:00 local time, as reported by Sputnik Georgia. All polling stations across the country have opened.

Residents will choose mayors and local advisory bodies (sacrebulo) in 64 cities and districts. The mayoral elections are held through direct local voting, while elections for the sacrebulo are conducted via a mixed system. A portion of the sacrebulo representatives is elected through party lists, while the rest are elected based on regional votes.

There are a total of 3,664 polling stations in the country, including 9 in prisons and 70 special stations established in COVID centers, quarantine, and self-isolation areas.

According to the agency's correspondent, queues have formed at some polling stations in Tbilisi since early morning. There are 3,497,345 individuals on the unified voter list. The highest number of voters resides in Tbilisi, totaling 1,002,900, while the lowest is in Kazbegi, with 5,680 voters.

The elections will be considered valid with any participation from eligible voters.
