Investigative Committee Reports on Case Involving Man Who Stabbed 82-Year-Old Woman

The Investigative Committee of Armenia has provided details regarding the circumstances surrounding the murder of an 82-year-old resident of Yerevan, following extensive investigative and procedural actions conducted by the Shengavit investigative department of the Yerevan city investigative administration.

According to factual data obtained during the investigation, a 44-year-old resident of Yerevan, with the intent to unlawfully deprive the elderly woman of her life by robbery, entered her home on February 8, 2021, at 11:22 AM, with her permission.

While inside the house, in an attempt to steal property belonging to the elderly woman, the 44-year-old man attacked her and inflicted multiple stab wounds on her chin, neck, and other parts of her body with a knife he had brought with him, causing life-threatening bodily injuries. Subsequently, he stole 60,000 Armenian drams belonging to the elderly woman and left the scene.

Additionally, the 44-year-old man had unlawfully acquired two factory-manufactured cartridges of military ammunition in 5.45mm/5.45x39 and 9mm/9x18 calibers, which were found during a personal search conducted by police officers.

Based on sufficient evidence, the 44-year-old man has been charged under Article 104, Part 2, Point 8, and Article 235, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He has been subjected to pre-trial detention as a measure of restraint. The preliminary investigation has concluded, and the criminal case has been submitted to the prosecutor's office for approval of the indictment and forwarding to the court for trial.
