Shooting in Yerevan: One of the Wounded is the Son of a Former Member of Parliament

Today, on September 24, shooting erupted in Yerevan. At approximately 2:40 AM, the operational management center of the Yerevan police received a report of gunfire near the ‘Cinema Moscow’ on Abovyan Street, claiming there were injured individuals.

While police were working on the scene, the number 1 university hospital alerted the central police division that two citizens had been admitted with gunshot wounds. Officers dispatched to the hospital identified the injured as 23-year-old Arman Khachatryan and 24-year-old Sergey Melikyan, both residents of Tavush region.

According to medical professionals, the victims are unable to provide explanations concerning the incident, as one is in extremely critical condition while the other is in moderate condition and undergoing surgery.

According to information from a photojournalist, one of the injured, Sergey Melikyan, is the son of former Member of Parliament and member of the Republican Party, Gagik Melikyan.

A criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department under Article 34-104, part 2, clause 1 and Article 235, part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.

Police and investigators have determined that a dispute occurred at the ‘EVN’ café located at 3/1 Abovyan Street, which then escalated into the corridor between addresses 5 and 7 Abovyan Street, where an unidentified person fired several shots towards Sergey Melikyan and Arman Khachatryan with an unspecified type of firearm.

During the investigation of the crime scene, detectives found blood traces, 3 9mm cartridge casings, and 2 9mm bullets.
