Iranian Drivers Faced with Costs as Movement of Iranian Trucks Slows

The arrest of two Iranian drivers by the authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Wednesday, September 15, is confirmed, and the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baku is actively seeking to address the situation of the individuals. This was stated by the Iranian embassy in Armenia in response to an inquiry by NEWS.am.

“As the spokesperson of the Iranian Foreign Ministry has declared, the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasizes that its citizens must be released immediately. Due to the situation that developed since Sunday, September 12, Iranian drivers are being subjected to financial expenses, and the movement of Iranian trucks has slowed down. Responsible bodies in the Islamic Republic of Iran are in contact with all parties to address this issue,” the embassy's statement noted.

The ongoing process aims to prevent disruptions in trade between Iran and Armenia, ensure the safety of Iranian citizens, and reduce transportation issues, as well as the accessibility of alternative routes within Armenian territory. “We hope that, through the ongoing efforts of both the Iranian and Armenian sides, these objectives will be achieved as quickly as possible, preventing any forced expenses on businesses and citizens while ensuring the continuity of positive trade relations between the two countries,” the embassy stated.
