If Measures Are Not Taken Against Coronavirus, We Can Expect About 5930 New Cases in the Next 7 Days: Abovyan

The coronavirus situation in Armenia is assessed as tense, stated Romella Abovyan, head of the Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Department of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health of Armenia, during a press conference.

“According to the analysis of the last 14 days, we have an 18 percent increase in cases, and there is also a rise in the number of positive tests, which stands at 11.1 percent,” she said.

According to the specialist, the reproduction rate of the virus has also increased. The data for the last 7 days indicates a rate of 1.2.

“If we do not take measures, we can expect about 5930 new cases in the next 7 days. Approximately 30 percent of these cases will require hospitalization, and unfortunately, 3 percent of hospitalized patients may need intensive care,” she stated.

Regarding the regulations from October 1, Romella Abovyan mentioned that a testing requirement is planned for all employees of economic entities and government bodies every 14 days, excluding those who are vaccinated.

“The main goal is to prevent the spread of the virus and to avoid serious, extremely serious cases and fatalities,” she said.

According to the representative of the Ministry of Health, there has been an observed increase in vaccinations.

“Only vaccinations can allow us to manage this virus,” she noted.
