Biden: The U.S. Will Continue Efforts for the Release of Detainees Held in Azerbaijan

U.S. President Joe Biden sent a congratulatory message to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on the occasion of Armenia's Independence Day.

"Dear Prime Minister, on behalf of the American people, I wish you and the people of Armenia a joyful and safe Independence Day. Our two countries are united by historical, family, and friendly ties, including the 1.5 million Armenian-Americans who contribute to enriching and strengthening our bilateral relationship.

This year, we celebrate the 30th anniversary of our bilateral relations. We are ready to continue supporting the Armenian people in the years to come as they navigate their democratic path, particularly by reinforcing democratic institutions, promoting human rights, combatting corruption, and ensuring the rule of law.

In the past year, the Armenian people faced significant challenges, including tragic human losses due to the hostilities from the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. Sharing in the sorrow of the Armenian people, we are committed to working closely with your government through the OSCE Minsk Group and other regional formats to promote regional stability and resolve the conflict.

The United States will continue to take measures to secure the release of Armenian prisoners held in Azerbaijan. Ultimately, we are committed to continuing our collaboration in the fight against the new coronavirus, for which the United States has allocated over $14.2 million to Armenia. During this pandemic, we will also work together on global and inclusive economic recovery.

Accept my best wishes to the people of Armenia on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of Independence.
