Violence and Insults at Charles Aznavour Square: Citizens Demand Cancellation of Holiday Concert
The situation escalated at Charles Aznavour Square in Yerevan as police began detaining participants of a protest. One protester announced over a loudspeaker that despite attempts to detain them, they would not leave the street and would continue to fight for the rights of even the police officers' children. “If you are ready to serve the Republic of Turkey, then we are not,” he declared.
This was followed by a scuffle between the police and protest participants, resulting in several arrests. The crowd chanted insults at the police, including 'Janissary, Turk' and 'Nikol, traitor.' At one point, an elderly participant's health deteriorated as police tried to detain him.
