Participant of Protest Action Detained at Aznavour Square

Lilit A.

Numerous citizens have gathered at Charles Aznavour Square in Yerevan to hold a protest against the "colorful" celebrations announced by Nikol Pashinyan on September 21.

The participants of the rally plan to march toward the government building; however, producer Armen Grigoryan, one of the organizers, reported that the police have warned them that the march will not be permitted.

“The police said they wouldn’t allow it. We told them we are going. We will see what happens. We asked them on what basis they are not allowing us, and they said, 'according to the law.' It is unclear which law they are referring to. It is normal for a government with such characteristics,” he stated.

Minutes later, the police detained one citizen, leading him to a police vehicle. According to reports, the individual was detained after questioning an officer whether Pashinyan is Armenian or Turkish.
