US Congress Proposes Sanctions Against Turkey and Azerbaijan

Members of the US Congress have presented eight proposals regarding the 2022 US Department of Defense budget, which also include sanctions against Turkey and Azerbaijan. This was reported by Ermenihaber.

In particular, the 579th proposal suggests investigating whether the Turkish organization “Ülkü Ocakları” is a terrorist group.

The 586th proposal calls for an examination of the role of Turkish “Bayraktar” drones in the second Nagorno-Karabakh war, and whether they violated US arms export control laws. The results of this investigation should be reported, and as a result, sanctions may be imposed against the “Bayraktars”.

The 52nd proposal requires the suspension of military funding provided by the US to Azerbaijan, while the 122nd proposal seeks to halt certain military assistance projects to Azerbaijan.

The 90th proposal demands the cessation of funding intended for support in Azerbaijan's security sector, while the 560th proposal requires Azerbaijan to return Armenian prisoners of war. The 408th proposal calls for a report on the humanitarian aid provided to Nagorno-Karabakh.
