Kocharian Proposes Solution to Security Issues on Goris-Kapan Road
Recently, Azerbaijani police forces have been conducting operations in the Eyvazlar section of the road, which do not fall within the framework of border issues. This was stated by Andranik Kocharian, a member of the ruling party and chairman of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, during a press briefing regarding the border situation.
“Azerbaijani police forces are stopping Persian trucks and collecting fees. This only concerns Iranian vehicles,” Kocharian said and noted that Iran and Azerbaijan should clarify whether these actions fall within the customs framework or if they are illegal activities.
According to the parliament member, these issues do not relate to movements from Zangezur towards Armenian territories. “Currently, the deployment of our border troops, the deployment of Azerbaijani forces, and the deployment of Russian border guards in that section are solutions to prevent security-related issues, to avoid firing at each other until we reach the phase where we need to clarify the issues related to border demarcation and delimitation,” Andranik Kocharian stated.
