When Syunik Will Have an Alternative Road: Papikyan Sets Timeline

The construction of alternative roads in Syunik is expected to be completed by the spring of 2022. This was announced by Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Suren Papikyan during a conversation with journalists in Gyumri on September 16.

Prior to that, construction works on the Kapan-Tatev gravel road will be finished. "If necessary, trucks wishing to travel in the Kapan-Tatev direction will be escorted by police, as there are ongoing renovation works there, and without police escort, problems may arise," noted the Deputy Prime Minister, informing that currently many are avoiding this road due to overloading, and even a small stone could lead to an undesirable situation.

Mostly, medium-sized vehicles use the Kapan-Tatev road. After paving, according to Papikyan, the road will become much more passable. The only issue that may arise, according to the Deputy Prime Minister, could happen at the section known as the "Devil's Bridge" in Tatev. However, the government is also planning to build an alternative route in that area towards Tatev-Ltsen.

In Syunik, new roads are planned to be constructed from Tatev to Bardzravan, Shurnukh, Jakatun, and Vorotan villages.
