All Night I Wait with Ears Pricked: Is the Drone Coming? A Resident of Geghamasar
“They asked for our opinion—do we want it or not? Let them ask for opinions. We are a border village, and they are doing this again,” said a resident of the consolidated community of Geghamasar during a conversation with reporters.
It is worth noting that since early morning today, residents of the Geghamasar consolidated community in the Gegharkunik region have blocked the Vardenis-Sotk highway. The residents are protesting against the community consolidation program, which aims to merge the Geghamasar and Vardenis communities.
“How long are we supposed to sit by the window all night waiting to see if the Turk is coming or not? Do they think that just because they are in Yerevan, we are not sleepless here all night? I have health issues, yet I listen all night to see if a drone is coming, I look out the window to see if a Turk is coming. Let them come and stay here for a week; then they will know where this place is,” said the resident.
She noted that if their voice does not reach the authorities here, they will go to Yerevan and sit in front of the Ministry and the National Assembly.
“Let their children live like our children do, what makes them any less? They take our money, and on top of that… Neither the work has a price nor does the price of potatoes, nor the livestock, nor the meat. We don’t understand how long this can continue. They are cutting jobs so that they can steal more money. That is all they care about,” said a participating resident of the protest.
