Vardan Ghukasyan's Son Detained

Just now, the RA Court of Appeal has accepted the Prosecutor's complaint, annulled the decision of the first-instance court of the Shirak region, and chosen detention as the measure of restraint for Spartak Ghukasyan, the son of former Gyumri mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, who is facing criminal charges.

This was reported by Gorn Abrahamyan, advisor to the RA Prosecutor General.

It is noteworthy that Spartak Ghukasyan was charged under Article 316, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code for threatening violence against a police officer on August 18, 2021, and a motion was submitted to the court to choose detention as a measure of restraint.

During the discussion of the motion, on August 20, the first-instance court of the Shirak region refused the motion, stating that although there is a risk of the defendant obstructing the proceedings, it is low, and the proper behavior of the defendant could also be guaranteed by applying a non-custodial measure, leaving it to the discretion of the prosecuting body.

In response to this decision, the Shirak region prosecutor's office filed an appeal, which was granted today.
