They Might Rename Yerevan to Erivan and That's It: Sharmazanov to Authorities
We understand that we have lost the war, but we cannot become advocates for the protection of the borders of 'Soviet Azerbaijan.' This statement was made by the spokesperson of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Eduard Sharmazanov, on his Facebook page.
'The widespread ignorance has covered many. What Soviet Azerbaijani borders? Even today’s Azerbaijan does not consider itself the successor of Soviet Azerbaijan; therefore, speaking about leading based on the borders of Soviet Azerbaijan is ignorance. Is this way 'the symbols of capitulation' preparing the soil for handing over Artsakh to Azerbaijan 'as a package'? If not, then why have they been diligently speaking about the inviolability of the borders of 'Soviet Azerbaijan' for months? I have said and written a thousand times that the state called Azerbaijan emerged only in May 1918 as a result of the intervention of Turkish Nuri Pasha. The name Azerbaijan is a 'stolen' name and is actually the name of one of the Iranian provinces located south of the Araks River. The Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan (1918-1920) was not even recognized by the League of Nations. We understand that we have lost the war, but we cannot become advocates for the protection of the borders of 'Soviet Azerbaijan.' Soon, they might even rename Yerevan to Erivan and that's it,' he wrote.
