Significant Wave of Discontent Emerges in Iranian Media Regarding Azerbaijani Checkpoint in Armenia
Iranian media outlets are calling on authorities to raise the transit tax for Azerbaijani transporters. The Iranian Javan newspaper published an article titled "Baku's Atrocity on the Road from Iran to the Caucasus," which discusses the Azerbaijani checkpoint on the Goris-Kapan road.
The article emphasizes that Armenia has lost all leverage over Azerbaijan and is not attempting to create new ones. In contrast, Azerbaijan has launched an attack on Armenian territory based on Soviet-era maps, and in addition to previous leverage mechanisms, it has established control over a 20-kilometer stretch of the Armenia-Iran road. "To demonstrate its seriousness and influence, it restricted the land route between Armenia and Iran for two days," the article states.
It is noted that in connection with the placement of the Azerbaijani checkpoint, high-ranking officials in Armenia have simply stated that "there are no problems, the checkpoints have been established in Azerbaijani territory." The article highlights that the Armenian government is not taking specific steps to resolve the issue, nor is there any special action from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
The publication explains that one of Baku's objectives is to reject Iran's use of Armenian territory for transit and to impose dependency on Azerbaijani territory. If Iran does not effectively utilize the Nakhchivan-Bilesuvar road and does not raise the road tax, then Azerbaijani atrocities will continue.
