How Azerbaijan Concealed the Real Number of Casualties in the War: EADaily Concludes the Number Could Be 4 to 5 Times Higher
The international news outlet EADaily, in its analysis based on statistics from the British newspaper The Economist reflecting the death toll due to the coronavirus pandemic, has touched upon Azerbaijan, stating that the real losses of Azerbaijan may be much higher during the 44-day war.
The agency reports that in the period following the war in Azerbaijan, the registered COVID-related deaths have increased by 4 to 5 times. In October, it exceeded the monthly average by 29%, in November by 83%, in December by 203%, and in January by 51%.
At the end of the article, EADaily also addressed Armenia, noting that during the same period, deaths registered due to the pandemic in Armenia have approximately doubled.
Specifically, the news outlet reported that after the outcomes of last year's war in Artsakh, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced that 2,890 soldiers had died during the military operations, with an additional 19 considered missing. The number of deaths in the country from October to January exceeded the average mortality rate by almost 15,000, alongside the officially registered COVID deaths.
These figures could suggest that the real number of Azerbaijan's losses from the war may be four to five times higher.
Regarding Armenia, the news outlet reported that there was the first major outbreak of the coronavirus from October to December, and in November, the number of deaths in our country exceeded the average mortality rate. The officially reported number of deaths from COVID during that period doubled to 6,000 from 3,000.
