Significant Increase of Azerbaijani Police and Military Personnel at Azerbaijani Checkpoint Near Vorotan
There has been a notable increase in the number of Azerbaijani police officers and military personnel at the recently established Azerbaijani checkpoint near the village of Vorotan in the Syunik region, as reported by ArmDaily.am. In a conversation with our correspondent, Vorotan resident Arbak stated:
“I just passed by the police checkpoint. Azerbaijani police officers were standing there in their uniforms with 'Polis' written on them. Large-scale engineering works are underway; I don’t know what they intend to build, but it certainly is not small construction. The population of our village, with families and children, does not amount to as many people as the Azerbaijanis near that checkpoint—there are probably more than a hundred of them,” said Arbak.
He noted that they pass by the checkpoint without looking towards the Azerbaijanis, so they do not perceive it as a provocation. Russian border guards are stationed just beyond the Azerbaijanis, but this does not ease the tension. Arbak emphasizes that they are not afraid of the Azerbaijanis; however, their increasing number is becoming concerning.
