Gas Explosion in a Town in Russia: Casualties and Injuries Reported

A criminal case has been initiated in Lipetsk region of Russia following the fatalities caused by an explosion in a two-story apartment building near the town of Yelets. This has been reported by 'Kommersant'.

The case was opened under the article concerning the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements. "According to the investigation, during the night of September 11, 2021, a partial collapse of the wall of the 16-apartment building located on Shkolnaya Street in the village of Solidarnost, Yelets district, occurred...".

It has been mentioned that preliminary data suggests the cause of the collapse was a gas explosion in the central part of the two-story building. The investigation reports that two bodies were found at the explosion site: an 11-year-old girl and a woman born in 1971. Their remains have been sent for forensic examination. According to local authorities, there is also a third victim, but their body has yet to be retrieved from the rubble. Six people were reported injured.
