Today Would Have Been His 20th Birthday: Hayk Died on October 28, Before His Father's Eyes

Aram Gevorgyan wrote on his Facebook page: “Beglaryan Hayk was from Artsakh, born in Stepanakert. He was drafted into the Defense Army in January 2020. He served in the Jabrayil region (in Jragh). On September 11, Hayk went up to the positions. He went up and sensed the smell of war. On the 25th, he called home and said, ‘Mom, a fight is starting, the situation is serious.’ The relatives did not believe him; when I called them, they said, ‘There’s no such thing.’ The next day, Hayk called again, said goodbye, and said, ‘Mom, we are going to fight, I will call...’

On the early morning of the 27th, Hayk's relatives woke up to explosions. Hayk was right — war had begun. That day, they had no news from Hayk, and his father rushed to Jragh. But he could not find his son; Hayk was already trapped. Three days later, father and son found each other. Hayk was very happy... He called home and spoke cheerfully, laughing, not complaining about anything. His relatives even doubted whether they were really fighting. But amid laughter and jokes, Hayk carefully asked his mother, ‘My dear, what are they saying on the news, when will they stop?’ He seemed happy and did not want to frighten his mother. However, the mother had already seen a terrible dream with her son’s name on the list of the fallen... The only word from Hayk that frightened his mother was: ‘They sold me, mom.’

Hayk died on October 28, before his father's eyes, in the fierce battles of the village of Shekher. The village fell to the enemy the same day. Today is Hayk's birthday. He was supposed to turn 20, but he sacrificed his life for his homeland, Artsakh. He sacrificed, well aware that this war was merely a staging. He did not even flee when he was consciously heading for death. Eternal glory to you, heroic boy.”
