Photos: The U.S. Releases Archival Footage of September 11 Attacks
The U.S. has released archival photographs from the September 11 attacks, most of which have never been seen before.
It is worth recalling that exactly 20 years ago, on September 11, 2001, the deadliest and largest terrorist attack in U.S. history took place, shocking the entire world.
On that day, terrorists from the Al-Qaeda group hijacked four commercial airplanes. The first plane crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center in New York, while the second struck the South Tower, leading to the subsequent collapse of both skyscrapers. The third plane hit the Pentagon, and the fourth, where passengers attempted to resist the hijackers, crashed near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
The attacks resulted in the deaths of 2,977 people: 189 in Washington, D.C., and 44 in Pennsylvania. Thousands were injured.
