Levon Aronian Loses to 13th World Champion in Chess Tournament
The Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian has lost to the 13th world champion Garry Kasparov at the Champions Showdown rapid chess tournament taking place in Saint Louis, USA.
It is noteworthy that the tournament features 10 players, including Levon Aronian, French player Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Americans Fabiano Caruana, Wesley So, Sam Shankland, Hikaru Nakamura, Lenier Dominguez, Russian Piotr Svidler, the 13th world champion Garry Kasparov, and Azerbaijani Shakhriyar Mamedyarov.
After six rounds, Aronian, competing under the Armenian flag, has scored two and a half points. On the first day, Aronian lost to Piotr Svidler, defeated Hikaru Nakamura, and drew with Fabiano Caruana. On the second day, he lost to Kasparov and drew with Wesley So (USA) and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France).
The tournament has a prize fund of $150,000.
